I've met the Vikings....

Yesterday I went to the Jorvik Viking Centre in York to talk and read to children and their parents. This was all connected to my book - THERE'S A VIKING IN MY BED! If you haven't read it then you'd better start now. It's all about a complete idiot of a Viking called Sigurd and how he ends up living in a seaside hotel in the year 2000. I hope that those who came enjoyed themselves, because I certainly did. What's more, I met up with two LIVE Vikings - Thorfinn and Bjorn. You can see all three of us in the photo.

It was a great session - lots of laughs and a terrific audience. There was one girl near the front who laughed SO loudly! Actually it was more of a witch's cackle! There were lots of books to sign afterwards, and children and parents to meet. Great fun! Then  I had to go home, and that meant FIVE HOURS on trains. :-(  It was pretty boring I can tell you, so I livened it up by imagining what it would be like to travel on a train full of Vikings. That would be pretty interesting, I think. I'd like to see a ticket inspector asking to see a big, hairy Viking's ticket! And imagine what Sigurd would have made of it!

  • We came to see you yesterday and enjoyed listening to you talk about Sigurd. Our favourite bit of your Viking books is when Sigurd is being chased by the policemen. posted by Daniel (nearly 10), Matthew (7 1/2), Mum (43 1/2)
  • I'm so pleased you enjoyed yourselves. I thought it was a lovely audience and I so much enjoyed meeting so many after the event. I meant to say a few more things about the Vikings, but I forgot. Doh! And I also meant to say more about when I lived in York. I was there for about seven years and lived at several addresses. My favourite one was in St Saviourgate, just of Whipmawhopma Gate (Don't think I've written that properly!) Thanks for writing in. Best wishes, Jeremy. posted by Jeremy Strong

  • Hello Jeremy,

Can't believe I missed you at York! It's only down the road from me.

I would love to add some of your fantastic books to my reading and writing scheme for children. Please do take a look at the website (which is currently being updated with more recommended books) and let me know if you would like to be involved. I think your books are exactly what the children need!

    Many thanks,

    Steph

  • Hello John and Hetty! Do I miss teaching? Not much. I miss having a class close at hand to watch and get ideas from. I miss letting your class become like your huge family for a year and getting to know them all very well. Otherwise I don't miss anything! Hetty - your story sounds like such fun. Your little sisters are very lucky to have you!
    Best wishes - Jeremy.
