Read for my School 2014!

Read for My School, the national schools reading competition from The Pearson Foundation and Booktrust, is back for 2014!

Read for My School invites all children in Years 3 to 6 attending Primary schools in England to take part in a two-month initiative aimed at promoting, celebrating and encouraging reading for pleasure!

2014 is also a pilot year for Read for My School in Secondary schools, where pupils in Years 7 and 8 throughout England can participate.

Read for my School hopes to:

  • increase the volume and variety of participating children’s reading so that they become more confident readers;
  • improve attitudes to reading so that the increase in participating children’s reading continues beyond the end of the competition;
  • strengthen whole-school reading cultures so that all children in participating schools benefit from a communal improvement in attitudes to reading;
  • encourage in children a spirit of philanthropy, so that they become even more involved in meeting the needs of their school community, and to help them to develop as future contributors to society.

All schools where pupils collectively read 250 books will automatically be entered into a prize draw to receive a whole-school prize of 100 books.
